Rider in the Poplars
A gaucho rides horseback along a sunlit dirt road lined with tall golden poplars, accompanied by two dogs in the warm autumn light.
My friend Lucas channels his inner John Wayne in this piece, dressed for a day’s ride at Estancia Tipiliuke. I was particularly drawn to the direct eye contact from the dog—that moment of connection between artist and subject. This began as an underpainting that a friend admired so much he asked me to leave it exactly as it was, unfinished.
Tipiliuke is an extraordinary estancia where historical buildings and barns create the feeling of stepping back in time, yet with all the luxuries of modern comfort. The property spans both valleys and mountains, making any horseback ride there a truly special experience.
